ArtsLink NB successfully designed and delivered an Arts & Culture Accelerator as a one-year pilot project in 2014-2015. Branded as Catapult Arts Accelerator, the program provided a select group of arts entrepreneurs with the tools, training and mentorship they needed to design business plans to scale their businesses, bring their products to market, and attract new audiences, investors, and partners.
Key tools included artist talks, mentorship matching, the business model canvas, and value-based financial planning. The programming enabled participants to accelerate the process of building sustainable business models, in particular sustainable financial plans.
Through this initiative, ArtsLink NB sought to expand the creative sector’s human resources competencies by empowering artists to more successfully commercialize their products and manage the business side of their practices. The program sought to address the serious issues of underemployment and underpay in the sector, as well as the risk of artists and cultural entrepreneurs abandoning careers in the sector. Encouraged by current trends in creative industries, which are a large and growing segment of the economy in Canada and beyond,
ArtsLink NB developed the Catapult Arts Accelerator as a way to improve the below-average incomes and overall commercial success rates of New Brunswick artists and culture-sector entrepreneurs.
