In light of the holiday season, Symphony New Brunswick presents a seasonal concert with singer-songwriter extraordinaire David Myles. This concert, co-commissioned by Symphony Nova Scotia and Symphony New Brunswick, will feature an album’s worth of newly arranged Christmas songs by composer and orchestrator Rebecca Pellet. “It’s Christmas”, will be a concert for the entire family to enjoy.
Described as bringing “genuine humility”, a “pure, natural sound” and a “warm atmosphere” to the stage, David Myles is an artist of superb talent who knows how to lure his audience in his world of undeniable charm. He is widely known for his ability to effortlessly move back and forth between styles. From classic country, doo-wop, modern pop music and jazz, an evening with David Myles brings a little something for everybody. Myles states that the sole reason he performs many different styles is because he loves all sorts of music. “Whenever I am fascinated by a certain sound, I just go with that, without too much concern about what it will do. It allows me to go anywhere.”
Rebecca Pallett, who has arranged all the songs for full orchestra, has been active as a composer and orchestrator in the film industry for more than ten years. She has had the opportunity to work with many distinguished film composers, including Chris Dedrick, Michael Small, Micky Erbe, and Rob Carli.
The concert will include impeccable covers of Myles’ favourite Christmas standards along with his original holiday songs, showcasing his versatility as a songwriter. The entirety of the show will be accompanied by the full, rich and lush sounds of a full orchestra accompanying. Myles says that he is very much looking forward to working with SNB again. “As a songwriter, playing with an orchestra forces you to re-imagine your work. It adds a new dimension, a new special colour. It is like being wrapped in a giant blanket of harmony.”
This holiday concert will be conducted by Principal Conductor Michael Newnham.
