How to get along with people
work by Ben Morton:
Words are difficult for me to use to express myself and so I turn to image making. People wear costumes everyday, and through this they put forth a controlled image that they wish to present themselves as. Through working with costume, digitization and print I aim todelve into this notion and look at how people interact with each other and how I interact with them. This allows me to play out fantasy, daydream and subconscious desires in the form of graphic images, drawing them into a real space presence.
cold cuts
Work by marissa cruz:
It will discuss the sexual and social absurdity between inanimate object (specifically food items) and a body’s structure. Inspired by the saying “object of desire”, the purpose is to express the ways in which prosaic objects can be comparably provocative as the human body.
My body will interact with food to explore the impish nature that food textures and shapes can have, toying with a viewers perceptions on attraction and repulsion . cold cuts will explore the idea of objectification, gluttony, consumption, submission and manipulation.
“cold cuts” reveals a physical disconnect in a playful, humorous and immersive manner.
Bed, Bug, Butterfly
Work by Nelligan Letourneau:
“Bed Bug Butterfly” is a selection of work that records my transformation
from human to butterfly. In Drawings, painting and embroideries I strive to chronicle the stagnant turmoil of my cocoon and my yearning to escape its unexpected comfort. This show embarks on the challenge of portraying honest accounts of my mundane life, while mythologizing my own identity in the process.
I am in limbo.
I am healed but hurt.
I am lost when found.
I am human yet insect.
I am specimen and observer.
